The idea of producing a documentary about the project came from the research members themselves.

They expressed interest in making a film that could tell people about their lives and get people to think about how to make the city a more welcoming place.

Ann Fudge Schormans contacted Toronto-based filmmaker Adam Goldhammer who, along with his film crew, worked collaboratively with the research members to create the documentary. Goldhammer’s productive team trained two of the members to assist with camerawork and trained another member to help with interviews. We worked collaboratively to also create artwork for the film.

The research team is trying to show this film to as many people as possible in order for them to start thinking differently about people with intellectual disabilities.

So far My Life in the City has been screened at:

  • ReelAbilities Film Festival in Toronto
